If 80s nightmare inducing classic Threads is to believed the best way to survive is by having a cellar. Though it's broader message is that you'd be better off as a scorch mark stain on the wall than surviving. You've gone wrong there. The broader message of Threads is never visit Sheffield.

Having visited Sheffield Threads was right.

I thought Threads was a documentary. I saw the ruined abandoned bits of Sheffield where the bombs hit. Just full of radiation twisted feral semi-humans. It was terrible. I presume 'city centre' is Yorkshire for 'highly radioactive do not enter'.

Morning everyone. More Stardew Valley last night, well into the Spring of my second year and it's still consuming my soul. I've managed to complete most of the Community Centre stuff apart from the fishing bundles and the adventurer stuff but got the Greenhouse last night. Went to bed as I was preparing new crops for it. Starfruit is your best friend for the greenhouse. Also, start crafting kegs to turn it into wine for maximum profits. Not sure if you know this, as I don't think it's ever told in game, but you can plant trees on the paths in the greenhouse and place sprinklers on the wooden looking bits. Just remember that double spacing still applies to trees but the environmental obstacles don't seem to count.

Stardew sounds a bit like Elite for people who think twee names and farming are better than space.

Is anyone who's not on WhatsApp interested in a game of Dip?

Never played dip. Maybe another day as I'm about to enter meeting no2. I'm calling it that as it's the second one of the day and it will be full of shit.

Stardew sounds a bit like Elite for people who think twee names and farming are better than space. If you went deep on both does that mean you're a super nerd, or are just well past needing a one way coach trip to Clifton? I'm asking for a friend . . .

To be fair to Sheffield, I like that curved mirror/fountain/wall thing at the station, plus the city centre has a Costa *and* a Caffe Nero.

Hello,
Tv: Stranger Things season 2. Already liking it better, now that the characters have been established and the plot is less stereotypical.
Games: Botwi, started my long walk from the Gerudo Highlands to Eldin Mountain. It never ceases to be fun looking at the scenery and wildlife and taking in the vistas in this game, having adventures on the way.
Nuisance calls: we've had the same scammy lot calling every morning. Problem is that when they first called last Friday for the first time they had an elderly relative without any technological understanding answering the phone. That had obviously the same effect on them as a trail of blood on the Demogorgon in Stranger Things. However, the second call this morning was from "Harry", who I suppose, is "Jane's" supervisor in Gurugram, and I hope that it proved to them that they are wasting their time.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (I wish)

More Jarlsberg with rocket and tomato, but on a hand-sliced white tin today.
Anyone else eating?

I'm having one of those veg pots you put in the microwave. Pot noodle, basically. Part of my new year commitment to stop blowing money on sandwiches and coffee from cafes. 10 days clean so far (apart from the 4 coffees I bought yesterday).

Should I bother getting Elite if I enjoyed the X series of games?

A couple of rolls and cheese for me. I'm having one of those veg pots you put in the microwave. Pot noodle, basically. Part of my new year commitment to stop blowing money on sandwiches and coffee from cafes. 10 days clean so far (apart from the 4 coffees I bought yesterday). Was sitting in the uni library yesterday and saw someone pull a kettle out of their bag and proceed to boil it and pour what appeared to be a mug of coffee. Even by my penny pinching lunchtime standards it seemed a bit extreme.

I don't know about X series, but if you like games that are slow, spreadsheety, and basically almost entirely grind, then Elite is for you. I love it.

Clifton. Should I bother getting Elite if I enjoyed the X series of games? I didn't play any of the earlier iterations, but the new(ish) one is really good. It went through a bit of a pump phase in here (well, on the Guardian blog) not so long ago. I tend to pick it back up every 6 months or so, where it'll hold my attention for a few weeks. Definitely worth picking up if you like pottering about in space in a gradually improving ship.

Is baby ok? I mean specifically in relation to his ailments yesterday, not generally.
I've been wiggling from home all week since we have plumbing problems. Top banana.

Civ VI is on the humble monthly bundle this time, a good way to lose days again.

Civ VI is on the humble monthly bundle this time, a good way to lose days again. verging on heresy blog here but after rage-quitting and such when I started to win on Civ V I found it a bit tiresome. Daresy I overplayed it but happiness and economy seemed arbitrary at times. I was going to compare with Civ IV but this doesn't seem to work on Windows and I'm too skint to buy it on Steam.
