Interesting twist in the new Star Trek episode. Also with regards to library chat Sheffield town council are trying to sell ours to be replaced by a hotel.

English libraries have been hit harder than Scottish ones up to now. Fife closed a few as did moray(?)
The moving libraries into trust is another worry. Some colleagues say it's the best thing that happened to them but lots don't. Also - when a trust closes branches it wasn't the council so "it wasn't us govnor"
Anyway. Morning!

Games: Modern warfare remaster campaign mode. I thought I had gotten further than I had years ago on pc but I've just done the ghillies part and the next part I'm on I remember as well.
Other game: Trying to get thru the barrier at Glasgow Central. Clowns holding it up. Proper eejits.

Another absolutely wank twist in the new Star Trek Episode. Convoluted plot, manufactured twists that undermine the show's credibility, and a focus on action and plot for the sake of plot, rather than plot driven by character. Every time the show is in danger of exploring an interesting theme the plot actually goes and undermines it (e.g. the tension between a character's impulses and the traditional Star Fleet values).
I'd criticise it's cliches more heavily, but spoilers.
Its saving grace is that the acting is actually rather good, especially compared with other Star Trek opening seasons.

Other game: Trying to get thru the barrier at Glasgow Central. Clowns holding it up. Proper eejits. Part of the joy of visiting home was stripped away when they put up those barriers at central as I could no longer experience the minor thrill of dodging my fare. Although, I guess that is the point.

Morning all.
Disco: I enjoyed it. Had my theories about that character for a while.
Games: just Civ Rev on the phone.
Booze: none.
This is living.

Last night I had to face the horrible reality that the xmas booze had ran out. Therefore I got myself to corner shop and picked up a four pack of Dead Pony club. I considered rum, but thought better of it.
I think on the whole the new Star Trek is alright, would like to see them get out more to strange planets and unusual aliens though, just all seems to be the usual characters in the usual locations.

Morning!
Games, Stardew. Slow grind to the plat continues.
TV, McMafia. The main bloke is very annoying. I think I've said this before but his resting, overbited (overbitten?), gormless expression is really, really, fucking annoying.

Yeah the McMafia guy is a bit rubbish. The story is enjoyable though.
Conchord. My PS4 'whats new' section is full of your Stardew valley medals. I'm contemplating an intervention. It's for your own good you understand.

Plunkbat article by Keef in games.
Watched some interesting YouTube stuff investigating whether the Witcher 3 team's "40 seconds rule" (i.e. give the player something to see every 40 seconds) holds true for other open world games (comparison was made between Witcher 3, Breath of the Wild, Fallout New Vegas, Assassin's Creed Origins and Horizon Zero Dawn). It was, of course, a subjective experiment, but the findings were interesting (Witcher 3 averages out even under 40 seconds, BOTW is consistently on 40 secs, the rest is a bit more stingy with things that pique the player's interest).

Origins has the wide open bits to the south and a couple of regions which don't seem to have anything in. Then again the cities or towns have quite a few bits.

On second thoughts, an intervention might not be such a bad idea. I really want to be at home playing it now. Actually, Monster Hunter on Friday! Stardew will likely be punted into next month.

I like to think I don't need a jolt of action every 40 seconds. I wonder if this is why Skyrim chucks a pack of wolves or bear at you every so often. I am fan of bleak techno, often long periods of minimal ambiance followed by a handful of beats and maybe a quick flourish. I do not believe beats should be just given away, all willy nilly.

Morning Boxers
Games - Fallout 4.... Thinking of getting the Far Harbour DLC, but still £20 on steam, which is as much as the original game. It's probably worth it, but after xmas i'm a bit skint so may wait til payday. Also grinding through Eternium on my phone is getting to be a ball-ache.
Rat-news - One of the little buggers came up yesterday through a floor duct 2 desks away. Much hilarity! Every office should have them. Much more exciting than the fleas we had in the last office.
Lunch - can't come soon enough

Just submitted me story for the guardian regarding perfectionism and how it affects me.
Have you been affected by perfectionism. Yeah, in the comment sections.
Simple typos, missing punctuation marks. Complete absence of gramma.
The pendants jump on you like you have just kicked a puppy which hit an orphanage causing it to collapse. The orphanage, not the puppy. The puppy was a right of from the get go.

Plodding across miles of bollocks-all is one of the great underrated joys of open world computer games. No wonder I hated the Witcher.
The 40 second rule was clearly applied to that colossal berk from the minutemen in Fallout 4, which was awful.

I managed to dig out my xbox 360 last night, and played some Dark Souls. I'm in the Undead Burg, smashed a few zombies, got set on fire a couple of times, didn't make it to the big guy on the bridge. Went to sleep.
4 Stars

One of his better ones, but who's playing the old Joanna at the end? Edit - Alexis Sanchez I suppose.

These are, of course, averages, and will be subjective to each player; it includes not only enemy encounters but also NPCs to interact with, resource management or noticing features one would like to check out. The length of the actual engagement (like fighting an enemy) wasn't factored in. Major sidequests were also excluded. Edit: I was equally surprised that these games are assuming the player to possess the attention span of a goldfish, interesting experiment nevertheless.
