Don't forget Oliver Plunkett's head. The head has nothing to do with Cromwell. I won't forget it in a hurry. St Oliver Plunkett's Head
Ah yes the great headhunter church. I am not saying they aren't civilised, but they aren't
It is dried and on display in one of the churches in Drogheda (St Peter's) I mean properly on display as well. It used to be in a discreet glass case at the side. They built a monstrous gold thing to properly display itReally monstrous You need to look at the link to see quite how horrifying it is (the gold thing, not the shrunken head). I mean it is impressive in its own way. Certainly makes an impression. The best/worst thing is that he was executed in London, so first of all they had to rescue the head, and carry it back to Drogheda. Nice people though.

I found the displaying of a head much less disturbing than the style with which it is done. I mean it is pretty much normal to display parts of your fallen enemies or heroes right?

Right, Sheeps's link does not appear to be Meatspin. I would not recommend clicking on it. I haven't, and will not be doing so.

It's a link to a shrunken severed human head in a monstrous golden display case. Which is what I said it is. I would not lie about that sort of thing Should you see it? Yes. I am going for yes. It's nothing like Meatspin. You will be going to Meatspin after seeing it, for a bit of mind bleach, but that is not my fault. Except in the most literal sense. The Google images do not capture the true horror of the display unit. I have bought two display units from Ikea. Good value.

I found the displaying of a head much less disturbing than the style with which it is done. I mean it is pretty much normal to display parts of your fallen enemies or heroes right? Longshanks, Eddie 1 of England and whatever else he could lay his hands on, went one further, He ordered the Countess of Buchan sent to Berwick-upon-Tweed with these instructions: "Let her be closely confined in an abode of stone and iron made in the shape of a cross, and let her be hung up out of doors in the open air at Berwick, that both in life and after her death, she may be a spectacle and eternal reproach to travellers." As if being sent to Berwick wasn't bad enough... The fractious Bruce's sister was sent to Carlisle - both survived this treatment. Bloody tough women. Scotland's absorption into the realm was put off by the death of Longshanks and the ascension of the incompetent Eddy 2... Eddy 2's treatment, after his stupid infatuation with Gaveston, the famine was rather worse than the two ladies, according to popular legend. You suspect that his foibles might have influenced the way he was offed. Uneasy lies the arse that sits upon the throne. A vile age.

Monstrous golden display cases are so bougie.
My home town museum used to have a fine collection of ill gotten, looted and variously pre-post-colonial shrunken heads. Now it just has the Hand of Glory and a fine collection of bad taxidermy. Say what you like about dignified burials, but it’s just not the same.

Whilst we’re on the subject, if you like this sort of thing and need a new book I can recommend “Severed: A History of Heads Lost and Found” by Frances Larson.
If you don’t have a particularly strong affinity for severed heads, on the other hand, I’d probably caution against it.

Good afternoon, assembled headhunters.
For once the Royal Mail Gods smiled on me: my parcel arrived this morning.
In other news, I have been playing AC:NH while I was waiting for said parcel.
Lunch: Flammkuchen from the freezer because Pref. Mam. thinks that our last precious slices of bread are no longer fit for human consumption. I'm not arguing.
Tomorrow Ocado! Tomorrow we shall feast!

10 minutes on AC Odyssey. I impaled Tom Nook on a rusty level 2 sword and detached his mangoes as an offering to Zeus. Considering tanuki lore that was quite the offering.

I actually need lessons in taking things too seriously from people playing Animal Crossing 25 hours a day. Yes, Yes you do.
Hello. I'm having to work and it's difficult to get stuff done during the day. I'm going to need to do some more tonight again. It's fucking depressing.
My work have a family friendly policy and are beign quite good about it - but leavign it to colleagues who have no kids takes the piss. They probably have spellcheck as well. Cunts.

I'm finding work more difficult. Partly because I am a long time sufferer from Lazyitis. It doesn't help that it is a beautiful day and everyone else seems not to be working. Mainly though all the stuff going down is increasing everyone's anxiety levels. I am having to talk to a lot of people who are anxious and reassure them that yes their business/job will be ok, probably, ish, but that no I do not know when or how. Plus one of my friends had a difficult day yesterday. Got very anxious about all sorts of stuff. Took all sorts of talking down, which is fine, but wearing. I would have preferred a chat and a laugh and a beer. But there you go.

I'm about half a mile south of the station and could hear some rather distinctive and LOUD bird calls at 2am this morning, must've been that.

My entire job at the moment is talking down anxious colleagues and trying to get them to keep a sense of perspective. It doesn't help that the things they are complaining about are monumentally trivial in the grand scheme of things. Hard to bear in mind that some of it is just displaced anxiety from the world at large. At least Sheep2 has saved me 20 quid or whatever with that fine summary of Cromwell in Ireland. On the other hand, I will never un-see that face in a box.

The head is not that bad. I've been to see it a few times. I like the way they really make a display of it. Civic pride. These people are very much my people.
Apart from sitting in my great-grandmother's parlour which is now part of a pub it's pretty much the highlight of a trip to Drogheda. Within 30 minutes you would be so bored that you would visit it.
