...having a cup of tea It seems, according to the Graun, that the outages were short-lived, but frequent ... Playing Age of Wonders 3 under a guest account (doesn't keep reporting back to the Paradox db via GoG) meant some of these passed me by... According to some sources Netflix also had problems across Europe at the same times... Here's a link to what The Independent reported. Below is a map from *spit* The Sun... And I bloody well hate waking up frequently and tonight total sleep = 3 hours and now it's tablet time ... Bah!

OTTM, I just finished watching Matt Damon in The Martian. Never seen it before. Been on my list for a while. Well ages. Bloody superb. 10 stars. I enjoyed it, but nowhere near as much as I thought... and I'm a Mars-nut. Sean Bean really dialled in his performance. And I think Donald Glover was channeling Dan Pudi in his role.

I loved The Martian book. I have never read a book about Mars I didn't like (2).

Morning all,
Played some more Rome TW last night. Rediscovered the bug where if you withdraw your army near water they disappear into it. This stalled my attempt at devastating a few Egyptian cities.

I really think that Mel Gibson was in a class of his own in that film.

I watched 'Eye in the Sky' (again) and '3-10 to Yuma' last night. All the culture.

Morning all. I changed my evening routine, and thus feel like I got a smidgin of control over my life. Albeit fleetingly. Gamesblog - no! TVblog - Lost in Space! Mid way through the second series. YouTubeblog - Curious Droid! Some fun facts on the US and Russia exploding nukes in space. Demoblog - not demos of games; demos of cool real-time effects and pumping music on limited hardware, something the Amiga was and still is famous for. Thug LifeRoots

I used to have a fair number; I read my first textbook on Mars at the age of 14, when I was doing my Astronomy badge... but I had read a lot about then. Farewell, Earth’s Bliss by D.G. Compton – 1966 The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut – 1959 Outpost Mars by Cyril Judd – 1952 Man Plus by Frederik Pohl – 1976 Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein – 1961 Mars by Ben Bova – 1992 The Sands of Mars by Arthur C. Clarke – 1951 A Princess of Mars*3 by Edgar Rice Burroughs – 1912 Red Planet by Robert A. Heinlein – 1949 The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury – 1950 The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells – 1898 Red (+Green +Blue) Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson – 1993 Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis *2 Podkayne of Mars by Robert A. Heinlein Welcome to Mars by James Blish (similar theme as TM) The Sword of Rhiannon by Leigh Brackett*1 Badge of Infamy by Lester del Rey Born Under Mars by John Brunner The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch by Philip K. Dick Return to Mars by Captain W.E. Johns*4 ... there are thousands that I haven't read... *1 She wrote a helluva lot of screen plays *2 I much preferred Malacandra as the title - very much anti-science fiction *3 He wrote a lot of the Barsoom stuff; essentially the same book over and over. *4 and Kings of Infinite Space - I was an avid reader of Biggles. I didn't learn to read properly until I was 10; at 11 I ran out of Biggles books and reading Kings... lit a fire in my heart that still burns brightly. Sadly, I gave nearly all of these to my best friend, RJW, in a form of tontine... sadly, when he passed away in 2013, in her grief his lovely wife forgot this and gave them to a second hand bookshop. A complete run of Galaxy, 75% of New Worlds - it should have gone to an academic institution. Nursey is here in 10m so I'd better leave this post alone now

I mistakenly doubled my antihistamine dose yesterday so fell asleep on the sofa at 6pm whilst idly thumbing through Walden. Incredibly relaxing. Recommend.*
*(Do not exceed the stated dose and be aware Thoreau was probably an insufferable proto-hippy who may cause irritation, hives and itching. Do not eat.)

I really enjoy it, the DLC is great too, especially the one in the late 1800’s. Rifle infantry against spearmen? Sold! DLC has been massively reduced, but for free you might as well get the main game.

Getting hayfever from even reading about the outdoors? That is the holy grail of nerdery - truly you are the best of us cobblers.

ChumblesI've always had an interest in space exploration and astronomy/cosmology, probably started by copies of National Geographic and a well-worn VHS of For All Mankind. KSR's Mars trilogy is what really got me into Mars though. A fantastic series. Obviously new discoveries have been made since he penned them. I've also got Ben Bova's Mars and the sequel. They're okay, but not a patch on the above. Oh, and Voyage, about a 1980's Mars mission using a nuclear-powered Saturn V.

I always liked those. Not that I ever was involved in downloading warez you understand. The music tracker software was good fun.

I read The Martian, but was unimpressed. Full of 'Science 101' observations like the fact that solar cells need sunlight to charge.
No shit, Sherlock.
The film was okay.

Baby, do you drink much water? Not water with things added, your actual water. Drink more water. That helps break things up inside and makes it easier to pass.
