The term ‘bollocking’ comes from the name of a Tudor dagger called a ‘bollock knife’. It had two lobes in the hilt which looked like ... testicles.
So if you’d had ‘a good bollocking’ it meant that you’d been set about with by a bollock knife.
It was not used to remove paint.

Tudor gents were very keen on looking fresh after being stabbed.

Has anyone played Disco Elysium? I think I'm going to get it when it comes out on PS4.

Also Monster Hunter Rise is out in less than a week and I should be getting it as a late birthday present. My backlog anxiety is all-consuming.

Nice I'm 99% of the way to buying Mash Effect Trilogy and Discoing with Macron. What I mean is I have bought them, but have mentally committed to them.

I just assumed it was something that happened in the clubs that Chumbles went to in his younger days. Not clubs: In the classroom*, with thirty desks and chairs, by class 4x (to The Mouth*"). *At the end of a 2h detention at 5.10 pm when we were all about to go home and the teacher had his back turned, the little fucker said "Is that cunt going to let us go home..." At 7pm, the teacher left and we kicked Cox into the corner and threw all the desks and chairs on top of him.* **He was one of ours, so we couldn't rat him, but as he was prone to picking fights with other groups of boys and then running behind the rest of us, we decided that the Mouth would need to learn the value of keeping his gob shut.

That's very interesting, little known fun fact: Old English slang (London and East End) naval terms. The word bollocks comes from bow locks. This version of the word was used as more of a spoken word than a known etymological history. It also comes from an old understanding of Bollock Blocks, which are the pair of blocks in the centre of a yard through which the hauling part passes to the foot of the mast, it's to raise, lower and lock the sheets of the foresail, Jib or mizzen (mid sail) at the gunwale depending what type of vessel you have and is at the top of the sheer strake or upper edge of a boat's side, sometimes written or spoken as gunnels. Rollocks: . From the term Rowlocks or Oarlocks which are the gates that the oars sit in to act like a fulcrum for their movement. much like my face no doubt. Late edit: also bollock knife.

In the spirit of pre ordering games, Shopto have Monster Hunter Rise for 34.99. I’m not sure how. Hopefully it might even arrive early.

Being born in Wanstead has it's advantages sometimes, I grew up around old slang just outside of bow bells, also I've sailed a bit in my youth.

Hello sailor!
Nature versus man. 1-0.
The cats brought a mouse in, so I built a humane mouse hotel to carry the little guy back out to the garden.
Mr mouse obviously thought the four stars I’d given the hotel were not deserved and he took his business elsewhere. That elsewhere was my shoe and then my trouser leg. At this point I let down the whole of humanity, tossed the mouse hotel aside and kicked out at the little guy.
He’s now living in the cellar and the cats are not interested in going down there to sort him out.
My beer is in the cellar.
I’m not sure how long this standoff will last.
