I actually saw this film in the cinema. Circa 82 ish I think. It was the treat at the end of a local football training camp/organised activity, that went on over the summer hols to keep everyone out of mischief.
Cheers galore echoed around the odeon as the good old allies gave Fritz a spanking*. Then we were all trying the Ardilles flick after that, which I eventually mastered about 10 years later.

Also, Max Von Sydow is great in the film
