What disappoints me most is that Seb Coe is a grade one upper class berk. Why would you steal a book about him? If you are in to thieving from libraries, and I note our librarians appear to be professionals at this, at least steal a decent book. Steve Ovett man, huh?

Take the book up to the librarian, place it on the desk, and ask if you can renew it. If you get any shit, simply tell them you're a slow reader.

If you are in to thieving from libraries, and I note our librarians appear to be professionals at this, at least steal a decent book. I didn't steal it. I borrowed it to read and forgot to take it back. He was one of my childhood heroes. A winner. A glorious runner. I guess at 14 you don't really, well I didn't, bother myself with, or understand class. Dad, a teacher, I found out in later life that he despised the posh sods/toffs, but he never preached to me as a boy, it was up to me to work out things for myself, form my own really terrible opinions if you like. He was a 2h 30m marathon runner in his early 40s, having only stopped smoking at 31 (from age 15) and athletics was big in our house. I did work out these upper class vermin are only interested in wealth, power and division (amongst the peasants) - see the last decade for that. There are only two types in this world I now believe. The poshos/blood liners and everyone else, no matter what background/race/religion. Why can't we all just get along? *updates spreadsheet*

I always liked Sebastian Coe, when he was running. I was pretty young at the time.
My dad always preferred Steve Ovett, but Steve Ovett always seemed like an old man with a baldy head to me. Sebastian Coe was much more dashing. Then Steve Cram arrived and made mockeries of them both.
I had zero awareness of social class.

Actually …
I only really had an awareness of social class - like actual experience - after moving down to London.
A tale of two cities. I’m devolving into a Morlock.

And you also had Tom McKeane with his George Michael hair, Peter 'the third chuckle brother' Elliot, Martin Steele, all 1.43 800m times.
And Steve Crabb, who used to run sideways.
But they're all just a poor man's David Rudisha. Who performed the greatest ever performance I have ever seen in the London 2012 800m.

The Olympics is starting soon isn’t it?
All sorts of grappling, fencing, track and field events …
I’m hoping the coverage isn’t too boat and bike centric.

He was coming back from injury so not at his best, but what an athlete to watch - an absolute machine, looked like he was floating above the track.
