Can you build a gaming PC for £500 still? Asking for a friend If you can get one with an AMD Ryzen 5700g in it. They're generally available soon. Decent frame rates on modern games. Then add a "proper" graphics card at a later date. They look to be almost as much as a PS5 just for the CPU, but run games considerably less well. At least that will keep the PC types saying 'why buy a PS5 when you could build a much better PC that is not actually better in some respects for the same price" off the guardian chat section. At least for another couple of years. I've just realised the last time I built a PC was over ten years ago so that may be a factor. |

The best time to buy a PS5 is at the point of release. The technology moves on so fast they are out-dated in a couple of years. They are also rubbish for FPS games.
I would just sit tight for another 12 months then build a gaming PC. By that point a mid range rig will be light years ahead of a PS5.

Morning all, Spent some more time on Empire TW. Sadly there isn't a workshop for mods on Steam for this. That said I quite like it. The Olympics is going full on Fyre Festival. Did we organise it? I tried playing this again recently, was going really well until I had a siege battle, at which point I discovered the pathfinding bug, which has never been patched, and the game massively slowed down to a crawl. Had to rage quit or lose the fight. Haven’t played it since, as I don’t want it to happen again. |

I would just sit tight for another 12 months then build a gaming PC. By that point a mid range rig will be light years ahead of a PS5. Except for most games 4k/60FS will be fine for years. Games will mostly be developed for PS5/Xbox. You'll get slightly shinier puddles on PC, yes, but is that worth £1k extra? |

By the end of the PS4's lifespan major game releases looked worse on PS4 compared to the worse settings on PC. Then you have less characters on screen as well as FPS locked at 30 for any demanding games, although prepare for it to dip well below this. If you play competitive games you are at a major disadvantage if crossplay is enabled due to low FPS and often lack of mouse and keyboard support. This worsens if you try to stream or have video capture on which further worsens performance. |
