Morning
In sunny Southampton this weekend. Doing some fun family activities. These need to be cut short as quickly as possible though so we can get back to watch the cricket. Maybe I can feign some sort of injury? Or accidently stab myself with the car key

Back when I was engaged to an American woman, she was trying to acclimatise me to American 'culture'* by giving me a half dozen Country & Western tapes. Only the Lyle Lovett and Nanci Griffith tapes were worth listening to. RIP Nanci Griffith, the American singer-songwriter who has died aged 68. *When she showed me a 110 year old dresser and said "we have old things too" I didn't endear myself to her by pointing out that my house was older than her country!

Hello.
We're off to see my Sister/Nephew/Mum's partner after lunch. The pm/child haven't seen them since before lockdown. My sister will probably greet when she sees the child. Before Covid times it was me turning up made folk cry. Not with Joy though.
My nephew is taller than me now. Just. But he's not stopped growing yet.
We watched Queen and Slim last night. It's very good but about half way through I said to the PM "it's going too well - bound to have a horrible ending" - dear reader, was I proven right or wrong? Worth a watch if you've not seen it.

Maybe I can feign some sort of injury? Or accidently stab myself with the car key I'm sure just being in Southampton will be enough to make everyone want to go home.

Morning Rebel Scum!
Watching cricket and eating second breakfast (calm down Pippin).
Root just reached 50.
No other plans as yet.
Riveting, I'm sure you'll agree.

Hey hey.
Copious amounts of sleep yesterday and a lay in this morning appear to have brought me back to the land of the living. For now.
TVblog: Ghosts (new series), Futurama (which includes the tear-inducing Cylon & Garfunkel), The Good Place, Community, and brand-new Lower Decks. Phew!
OTTM: the boy has got an electric car before me. He’s had great fun today driving it around the patio.

Hello.
Beautiful sunny day here in the Deep South.
I've run out of milk, so I've summoned the Jeff Fresh wizards once more.
Still playing Ace Attorney and enjoying it a great deal.
Since this place has a nice television screen in the dining area in the kitchen (with CBeebies as the default, to keep the kids quiet during mealtimes) I've been watching more television during my meals as well. I've now worked my way successfully through the Olympic opening ceremony, the closing ceremony, and some of the bits in between. Very topical, I know.
I just wanted to make an observation on the opening ceremony. The BBC commentators were, as usual, Hazel Irvine and Andrew Cotter, who did on the whole an excellent job and who had obviously prepped on sports facts, geography, and recognising flags (vexillology, as they themselves mentioned).
However, when the accompanying music to the Parade of Nations turned out to be a medley of Japanese video game music (from the highly recognisable like the opening Dragon Quest theme* and Final Fantasy, to the more obscure like Inazuma Eleven and SaGa. I was particularly pleased to even hear the new Monster Hunter Rise theme) they had no clue what was actually playing. All they said was that this is music that you will be familiar with if your kids are playing video games. Sure, because kids these days are totally into Chrono Trigger and NierR. Couldn't they just have asked for, like, a list in advance? At one point (I think it might have been during the Olympus Coliseum from Kingdom Hearts) Andrew Cotter paused to figure out what was playing and quickly moved on after realising that he was out of his depth and that Hazel wasn't any help, either.
Sorry, I needed to get this off my chest.

Heading home from my sisters. Had a shot of the nephews Switch Mario kart remote control car. Pretty cool.
The child had more of a shot. The king is dead, long live the queen.

Following the BBC Sport EFL Championship live text updates. This from the Birmingham match... Sounds like a thriller at St. Andrews... Solid result. Maybe even stolid. I'm still absolutely fucking furious with the club. We ended up with maybe 1,000 empty seats in the two open stands. And 7,000+ people who had bought tickets for the game and had them cancelled. I'm not sure that is ideal. I swapped my ticket for today with Shenguin as he had come up from Somerset and did not get a ticket in the ballot. I can use his ticket for Wednesday, when I won't get one. I also travelled to Worcester to get a ticket from a lady who had a spare. This worked well. And means I get to go to all the games. I didn't even had to sit in the same stand as Shengers. So everyone won. The game was dull. After 17 months it was perhaps not the celebratory homecoming we hoped for. But I suspect that was inevitable after the stand/ ticket fiasco. I remain hopeful we can do better organising future games.

I've been waiting 17 months for mediocre football to return*. Patiently.
There was no way of missing this. I met one of the people I have got to know over the last 20 years in my real seat. It was good to see and chat with him.
* Sheffield United last weekend was not the same as a home game. It was also emotional. But less disappointing. Which isn't really right for Blues. We needed to put that right. And we did.

Just booked a 3 night stay in York in September. Any recommendations of things to do? I went to York about 5 years ago but seem to have forgotten almost everything about it. I seem to recall there was some sort of chocolate museum, and the viking museum. I think there was also a road that featured in a Harry Potter film.
