"As to cost it depends on your circumstances but you can pay similar amounts doing other stuff and nobody would bat an eyelid." See concert tickets, Sporting events, 1/4's of cocaine every other weekend etc etc. *bats eyelids* Trouble is, even in the day, I would very rarely do anything that you list. Cocaine's a fools game. I hated most gigs, the old Wembley venues being the fucking pits; a) Wembley stadium: ca 10h standing or sitting on concrete to not hear a damn thing while yobs* higher up seeing if they could gob on us and watching their urine trickle down past us. And when Dylan turned up 3h late the great man was inaudible, b) Wembley arena: there to see Celine Dion... the seats are so close together that I only lasted through the support act - The Corrs (brilliant live), by the time they had finished my shins had dents from the chair in front, severe bruising and the skin had broken and I simply couldn't endure it any more so I had to leave the then PM whilst Dion screamed "I will go on"... and she bloody well did. But the relief of not having the seats dig into my shins and my ear drums pierced was immense. *I bet that was you Destry

I've never been to York, so it's interesting to learn what I've missed.
I very much enjoyed reading Jay Rayner's review, though the picture of the £38 salad plate was enough to put me off my food as it reminded me of a trip to the US and my first encounter with an American self-service salad bar in a university cafeteria.
There weren't any prepared salads, just raw ingredients to assemble and to be drenched in a salad dressing at the end (ranch, most likely). So I put a bit of everything into my bowl, including a generous scoop of some weird red stuff that I couldn't identify but thought to be some kind of dried red pepper.
Sat down at a table and found out that this red stuff was... bacon bits. I was totally confused because I'd never seen them before and it was so far removed from my idea of bacon that I found it difficult to process. Everything else on offer had been vegetarian (though the bacon bits might have been, too) and I couldn't understand why anyone would want such a strong meat taste in their salad. I'm okay with bacon as an ingredient in a Cesar salad, but proper bacon and not this travesty. I ate the bacon-y salad as I felt responsible for having created this monster, but it tasted atrocious.
So when Jay described the salad as containing
I got triggered. Beurgh.

I was waiting for Tent Hen* to comment about York before I gave my views on the suggestions offered up by the Box Hive-Mind.
tbc...
*Though Destry and Amipal would have been nice.

Afternoon all.
Today we’ve been for a walk around the back of Alfriston, a charmingly quaint and quintessentially English village with an awful traffic problem. Luckily we got there early enough to beat the traffic and get parked.
TVblog: Futurama, The Good Place, Community (the truly classic Remedial Chaos Theory).

I considered going to York University. It was raining and cold and windy. At one point we were led through the main square, a 1960s concrete monstrosity. The wind whipping through it was enough to make you lose the will to live.
Four stars recommended.
I went to a soft southern university which did not have arctic winds.

Anyone else get massively triggered when film adverts say things like "in cinemas August twenty" rather than August twentieth?
Makes me want to do murder.

Went to the pub (The Stapylton if Destry knows it)for a family meal, first time since Jan 2020.
Was nice, finally getting to some normality before going back to the office sometime in September.
I see Afghanistan is a thing again, almost as if the state of continous conflict wasnt just a theory.

I see Afghanistan is a thing again, almost as if the state of continous conflict wasnt just a theory. Biden's first major fuck up. Surely the fuck up is to pump billions and lives into supporting a state that has no legitimate support and can't support itself for even a couple of months? If that is all there is to show for 20 years of fighting and state building you have to wonder if any of it was worth it.
