If you like historical stuff York is pretty good, but not huge.
You can walk the walls I think. The Minster is worth a visit. There's a lot of old buildings. Lots of pubs as well. There is a branch of Betty's which is a semi-posh tearoom.

Just booked a 3 night stay in York in September. Any recommendations of things to do? The Viking place is OK, but a bit expensive for what it is. There's a famous tea place which has always got a massive queue but other than its just pubs really. The National Bird of Prey centre is a relatively short drive away.

I remember there being lots of pubs. I think that's probably why I don't remember much else.

Just booked a 3 night stay in York in September. Any recommendations of things to do? I went to York about 5 years ago but seem to have forgotten almost everything about it. I seem to recall there was some sort of chocolate museum, and the viking museum. I think there was also a road that featured in a Harry Potter film. Ever thought about writing a guide book?

Just booked a 3 night stay in York in September. Any recommendations of things to do? My favourites - The National Railway Museum - note that although admission is free, you must book in advance. It's a splendid half or full day and has most of Britain's historic engine's, including Mallard and the Hogwarts Express And the York Armoury shop

I loved it. And it's free*. And it gets you out of the many brilliant pubs for a few hours. *voluntary donations on entry. Or it was when I last went about 5 or 6 years ago. Edit - the railway museum obvs

Also The Stone Roses bar. Mad for it etc
I sang a solo* to This Charming Man hanging over the balcony.
And it has/d one of those things from the seaside where you punch a machine to see who the is strongest. I wasn't allowed to try as I would have broken the machine**.
*nobody was listening and most people were trying to start fights.

Just booked a 3 night stay in York in September. Any recommendations of things to do? Cancel your booking and stay at home? I really like York Minster, and the choral Evensong their has an excellent reputation, if you're into that sort of thing. Also the walls are worth a walk. I enjoyed The Yorkshire Museum, though it's been a while since I went, but I think it's free. I went to the Jorvic Viking Centre as a child and enjoyed it, but I assume I would think it expensive and crap nowadays. Shambles. Pubs.

Or just chuck York in the bin and have a Beano to Margate instead.

Legs playing up, so went on an imgur trawl... Steampunk fascinates me... The Black Pearl was unveiled at the Bigtwin Bike Show in Rosmalen, Holland, next to a poster of Captain Jack Sparrow. But unlike the legendary sea vessel of the silver screen, this Black Pearl is a land vehicle powered by a steam engine. Constructed by Dutch company Revatu Customs, the two-wheeled locomotive is a fully functioning motorcycle, albeit a slow one (top speed 10Kmph).

And a steampunk pc - Lian Li case, Ryzen 3800X, X470 board and 32GB of 3600MHz RAM with a 1080 Ti. I suspect that the nearly 100% modding will void the warranties!

It is a pity, but I guess the massive cosmetic changes would've been difficult to achieve; 10 x ?120mm fans should take care of cooling! He's got some excellent details - it's pretty obvious that OLDMANGRIMM will be used to play The Witcher...

York chat, the York brewery has a few pubs as well as the ones which flood every time the river goes over the banks. There is a outlet shopping place out of town. If you want Betties look up little Betties as it's the same thing without the queue, it's also near evil eye which did great cocktails and Thai food.

Who the Hell can afford those prices? For 'food' that would leave you hungry. Namby-pamby, poncy-woncy, fuck-witted idiotic posturing wannabes who think they're demonstrating that they've made the big time. I bet they sit there looking round to see if anyone is looking at them so the twats can have an audience for their ascension to celebrity. I bet these gumbies leave a £20 tip... obscene. Get some of this down yer necks I am supposed to be doing chores

Depending on the raw ingredients I don't have an issue with some of the prices - out my price range but then again so are Porsche. If the Ragu was made with wagyu beef then ok. The wine markups really, really take the piss.
But yeah - for folk with more money than sense if they go after this is published.

I like food and I like going to restaurants, ranging from KFC/Kebab places to 3 Michelin star places. We generally pay* around £50ish/pp but have gone up to £250ish/pp** for restaurants like the Fat Duck and Gordon Ramsey at Chelsea. We've had good/great food and time in all*** of them. When it comes to price the more you pay the more you expect, after a while the food can only be cooked in so many ways so the rest of the price goes into surroundings and service which we feel are all part of the experience. And experience is an important part, spending 3 to 4 hours eating good food with superb service is, to my mind, well worth the money. As to cost it depends on your circumstances but you can pay similar amounts doing other stuff and nobody would bat an eyelid. Finally if you want a "fancy" experience check out the 1* restaurants, the food/service is still very good but the prices are much more reasonable, I highly recommend Chez Bruce in Wandsworth. As to the article, any restaurant that their cheapest bottle of wine is £84 is really taking the piss, I totally agree with Jay Rayner's recent piece: Why are restaurants’ cheapest bottles of wine becoming so expensive?*inc wine **if you go for the tasting menu ***except for the Waterside Inn****, how that keeps its 3* I don't know apart from the name Roux associated with it. ****A story within its self.
