I’m watching Mary Poppins Returns.
In the first film Mr Banks tried to instill some financial good sense into his children. But then Mary Poppins arrives with talk of feeding the birds, flying kites and all of that nonsense.
Thirty years later, the son of Mr Banks reaps the rewards of Poppins’s guidance and finds himself owing money here there and everywhere, with three children to look after. Mary Poppins returns, forces herself into his life and takes his children on another journey into the land of make-believe. It’s hard not to see her as a malevolent force at this point.
