Lewis Carrol and Tolkien used to attend the same pub, books about small men spending all their time together and LC's interest in small children taking perception altering drinks might put the local spoons in a better light. Seeing as Tolkien was 6 when Lewis Carrol died, I think you might be wrong on this one… I think you’re thinking of CS Lewis. In which case, yes they were great drinking buddies. My favourite story being they once both went to a party dressed as polar bears. It wasn’t a fancy dress party.

Lewis Carroll did have a fondness for children, like a lot of Victorian gentlemen.

On another note, I've spent about 88 hours ringing and have done about half the Big Bads.
The latest speedrun is 28 minutes and 59 seconds.

I'm functioning on 3 cylinders, if you can call it that, so I will be posting nonsense when I get time. I'm forcing myself through chores atm. I have a CT scan at 8 a.m. on Friday, as well as the usual torture session, so I need to do stuff (like giving myself a Brazilian 😮) like prepping an overnight bag etc. in case something goes wrong with the scan. I'm alas trying to arrange stuff like transport and rearrange appointments. I have gone from 20th in the queue for the Surgery to 11th, after trying for the preceding hour to get into that queue... I am getting very very grumpy. I listened to our Women in the World Cup in New Zealand overnight. It didn't help the intense discomfort in my legs much to hear a fielding performance that was pretty close to awful. I listened until 5.30 a.m. when I mercifully missed the rest when I fell asleep. BBC "In becoming the first one-day World Cup holders, women or men, to lose their first three games, England are on the brink of a calamitous exit."

It was CS Lewis and Tolkien at the same time together you are right. Did the pub survive COVID as they weren't sure about it the other year. Also Oxford had the Morris dancer festival one year when I went, bells and handkerchiefs everywhere.

And after 3h 45m I got through to the Surgery ... I don't know how folk with a job cope with these bastards. They're ALWAYS truculent and all the nurses and podiatrists try and get me to call and pass messages on, rather than call themselves. What's really annoying is that I can't call anyone else or do much.

Morning
Games, Ring. Duffed up RIIICKKAAAAAY!
Lunch, Heinz minestrone soup. Went OTT with the ground black pepper. HOT.
OTTM, I can picture Schofield as an Ice Cream man. Probably on a long term contract with the council to have the prime spot on Blackpool promenade. "Scoffelli's's Ice's". Van pimped out with the Italian Tricolour, Scoffy with his white hat and apron.

'Ice Scoffelli', a film by Jean-Paul Escargot.*
*If anyone gets that reference, I'll be impressed.

I had a bowl of kale for lunch. With garlic, olive oil and lemon. It was a bit heavy on the lemon. I should have toasted some pumpkin seeds but I forgot ...

Hello.
I had a ham, cress and mayonnaise sandwich at lunch. We’ve been growing cress and mustard in a pot on the windowsill, and it is now ready for harvesting. Made a change from a ham-only sandwich.
