Bastards. There were only 3 choices for the second letter. I chose the best two first. 4 choices including the right one. very very late edit: I should have said it took me 4 choices before the right one for the second letter, I had all the others in two.

They're called Pizzas. Surely you'd had one before? Focaccia, fresh mozzarella, rocket (I think) and hot, thick porchetta. The most beautiful sandwich Iβve ever eaten, and every sandwich since has been a bitter disappointment. Much like my life. In Florence your sandwich bread should taste of nothing. Otherwise it's not authentic. www.atlasobscura.com/articles/mystery-italy-saltless-bread-trade-wars-salty-hamsSince focaccia is a Ligurian speciality, are you sure you weren't in Genoa?

What is this? I keep seeing mentions of it, but havenβt a clue what itβs from. Empire Records. Think of a film from the 90βs. Then make it even more 90βs. No, even more. There you go. Itβs the best.

No one who was actually alive in the 1990s saw Empire Records.
It's some weird thing picked up by millennials.

Thanks to your posts I could see where this was going after the first line, so I decided to eliminate letters Γ la Shenguin although I was tempted to try my luck.
Turns out the solution was the word I would have tried first. I suppose I can't really claim a two-fer here because I was already cheating.
Cool story, etc.

Asda were very late today. Which is fine as it's giving me an excuse to have takeaway tonight instead of tomorrow night. Chicken tikka kebab & curry meal deal I think.
The child has once again gone to her pals two doors up. Quite right, having been locked up for nearly a fortnight. This has given me a chance to hoover/dust as well.
ALFOS stream from last week is my soundtrack to cleaning / putting away the shopping.
Fuck off giant hailstones outside.

I've never been to Venice but I went to Rome, Florence, Sorrento, and Naples on a school trip. Apart from a vague recollection of having pizza in a restaurant once as a special treat I can't remember a single meal. I think it was all self catering which largely meant foraging for (in the case of Florence, tasteless) bread, cheese, and olives. I mainly reserved my very modest budget for entrance fees and a few art and archaeology books.
In Florence one evening we stumbled upon the scene of a knife fight where the victim had left a trail of blood before collapsing in the street. A man shouted at me to call the police which was easier said than done since this was before mobile phones and I had no idea where the nearest public phone was. I still feel bad about being extremely useless in that situation.
Best work trip (sort of) was using a grant to attend a conference in South Africa with the PM to visit relatives there, but that's a whole other story.

Not so.

I went to a town in ... Trentino? a couple of times, to go skiing, with my school ...
Nice place. I wasn't eating meat though and the vegetarian meals were a bit strange. A few times I had cheese with chips - slices of cheese with chips.
Pretty delicious really.

I walked up Mount Vesuvius once. Was hoping to encounter a magma lake. Not so. Maybe it was just shy? Stromboli apparently had a lava lake in 1986 and 1989. Etna has had them in the past. Vesuvius not so much.

I walked up Mount Vesuvius once. Was hoping to encounter a magma lake. Not so. I also walked up to the crater of Vesuvius. On the way down I lost my footing and slid down the slope made up of loose volcanic rubble on my backside. Pretty good way to get to the bottom fast. Would not recommend when standing at the edge of the crater.

I also was very slim due to not much eating Thursday - Mon. Chips'n'cheese is a late night Scottish delicy. When ordered, the chippy staff will usually ask "dae ye waant the cheese meltit"

Takeaway ordered. I hope the curry is ok. I've only ever ordered kebabs from this place before.
They've always been excellent though.
