Afternoon all. Preferred Mammal is off to Madrid for a few days, anybody ever been? Know anywhere good to go? Me? Oh I get to stay behind and tile the en-suite. Time to make sure the PlayStation is up to date. Yeah, been a few times. I liked the Prado but preferred the Reina Sofia and the archaeology museum. All 3 are quite close iirc. Had a couple of nice meals in this place: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%C3%ADrculo_de_Bellas_ArtesDefinitely avoid the ripoff restaurants in the big squares. |

We've just been to a Gelato place near(ish) to us. Gelato Di Pietro. Fuck me it was fantastic.

So after our short stay in Ramsgate earlier this year we are going further afield and have a break in Southend.
None of the foreign rubbish.

I've been diagnosed with man flu by PM. She seems unimpressed with a temp of 38.4 which refuses to go down despite taking all the tablets. She seems convinced that if it was her, she'd just neck a lemsip and carry on, rather than 'moping' round the house like a 'slapped plum'. She's getting on my tits tbh, but she's taking the kids to her sisters later so don't have to take any shit much longer Wow! That is high! Time to play this I think... Get better soon fella. (Take a Lemsip *snigger*) |

Southend is well wierd.
Few years back i had to fit some eqpt at Marine Exchange so booked into a local B+B. Found a pub for beer and a meal and was playing pool when the landlord called for quiet, turned off the lights, as well as the jukebox, and turned on a large TV. The whole pub remained in total silence, while Eastenders was broadcast to the enraptured crowd, after which the lights came back up and normal service resumed. It was like a religious service!
Couple of night later i was in the same pub, and asked if he had a bottle of Newcastle Brown, as the local stuff was pish. Barman gives me an odd look and rustles about under the counter, and comes up with a bottle of NB that looked as if it had come from Peter Cushing's personal collection. Dust... Cobwebs... the works. After giving the bottle a wipe and handing me it and a glass he watched me drink, and then sidled up and under his breath says something along the lines of "Never sold any of that before til you turned up.... not likely to sell any more round here... if you take the lot you can have it for a tenner a crate". Luckily i had a works van, and so at the end of the week i merrily clinked my way back up the M11 with about 120 bottles of Dog.

Going mainly for nostalgia, it used to be one of our day's out during the summer holidays.
Fish and Chips, penny arcades and 10 pin bowling. 4*

A guy i know is currently travelling round the 'Stans' - Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.
Missing out Afghanistan strangely enough...
The photos he's putting on social media are pretty out there. Huge intricate domed buildings and the like. Large squares with nobody in them.
We're waiting on the photos of him in an orange jumpsuit on the news reading out his spying confession.
