I have never heard of the author. A quick search of Music Magpie's used book range came up with one book, "Spock must die!". Hmm. He does seem to have written an awful lot of Star Trek books. Nevertheless I have ordered Cities in Flight. Let's hope it's worth a read. It is of its time, when science fiction was still pretty much in its infancy. As you probably know, in the forties to the sixties the majority of authors (even the big names like Asimov*1, Heinlein and Herbert ) wrote novels in stand alone episodes in magazines like Galaxy (of which my best mate and I collected a complete run - I gave him my 5k paperback sf and fantasy collection)*2. They did a rewrite and then published them as novels. *1 The Gods Themselves was published as 3 stories, 2 in Galaxy and 1 in ?Worlds of If? *2 Sadly, he died just as I got into this long sequences of illnesses and because she was understandably distraught she gave the combined collection away; it also included a nearly complete run of New Worlds from 1961 to 1973 as we were Moorcock fans,

Crank doesn't get out of bed for less than 120k. Monica's out of luck then, because he won't get into bed for less than 120k.

That is a surprisingly attractive photo of Crankcaller. And you had no idea his real name was Monica? For £120k they can use any name or pronoun they like.

I read Dancers At The End Of Time, but I didn't really enjoy it. Not a fan of Moorcock.

I read Dancers At The End Of Time, but I didn't really enjoy it. Not a fan of Moorcock. A long time ago I read his Jerry Cornelius novels. I enjoyed them, but have studiously avoided his fantasy stuff. Not my cup of tea.

What I did read recently was Frankenstein. Considering it was written over 200 years ago, and by a teenager, it was very readable
The main character is an absolute fucking bellend though

The Babadook is on BBC3. Chumbles. I believe that was an attempt by Sheeples to be smutty.

The Babadook is on BBC3. Chumbles . I believe that was an attempt by Sheeples to be smutty. It was also genuine literary criticism. I did not like the Michael Moorcock books I read. I can't remember if I finished all 3 or not. I certainly read the first and at least some of the second.

Nothing wrong with that, but literary criticism. is a completely different animal. Some of his stuff is ordinary, but I liked the doomed Elric and his sword Stormbringer. You'll find that folk who played D&D are fans of Moorcock's Elric, Count of Brass etc. provided inspiration for a lot of backgrounds to our group's dungeon worlds. Moorcock's covers led me to Patrick Woodroffe's art... Woodroffe's "career was boosted when he became a paperback cover illustrator, producing some 90 covers for Corgi Books in 1973-76, many of them in the fantasy and science fiction genres, including novels and collections by Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke, Jack Vance, Mike Moorcock, Frank Herbert, Robert Heinlein and Brian M. Stableford.

I didn't expect to have to spell that out. I accept there are other books i have disliked for different reasons. Infinite Jest, for example, I just found very dull.
