That reminds me of a race in Forza yesterday. I accidently crashed into the lead car then slowed down to let it re-pass as I am a gentleman. He rammed me up the arse Crank stylee. I then pulled over to the side of the track and gave him a friendly 'toot' to let him pass. He did, and crashed straight into the Armco (getting a strong Crank vibe now). He then quit the race as he'd made a right plum of himself.

I've never rage quit a race in my life! Oh, I see what you mean. Tbf the PS5 dualsense throttle is better than the original xbone controller so I'm less touchy feely in races.

My YouTube adverts are trying to sell me life insurance, which is amusing.
No kids and the Pref.Mam. has far more money than I do.
Who would I leave it to, the 'Box?

A carrier pigeon has appeared at my desk from Chumbles:
"Slightly better, but still got problems... They are trying move me out. I can't even walk...
Regards to everyone ☺️ Sorry not to be more original, but 2 infections and at best 2h sleep for 20 days"
Have asked if he means they're trying to send him home, which Shirley he's in no state to have done.

Chumbles is bed blocking then.
No wonder the NHS is in such a mess.
I expect that Chumbles is fighting strongly to be returned home when well enough. I doubt he fancies being moved in to sheltered accommodation or a home. He seems a man of firmly held views. I hope that he is actually well enough to cope when they free him.

Sheepers or the other one - nu foyles is quite nice, defo worth a visit. It's moved slightly. Is that me? Am I 'the other one'? Very hurtful. I was a big fan of the old Foyles. It was fantastic back when the old lady was in charge. Piles of books everywhere. I think they used to shelve them by publisher. So if you didn't know who published the book you wanted it was a game to find it. Parts of the shop on the upper floors were like a warehouse - and I mean parts open to customers. There were big unopened boxes of books in some areas. From WikiControl of the shop passed to Christina in 1945. Under her the shop stagnated, with little investment and poorly paid staff who could be fired on a whim.[2] She also refused to install any modern conveniences such as electronic tills or calculators; nor would she allow orders to be taken by phone. However, the shop excelled in other fields: expensive books ordered from as far off as Germany were sent with a bill without prepayment.
The shop operated a payment system that required customers to queue three times: to collect an invoice for a book, to pay the invoice, then to collect the book, because sales staff were not allowed to handle cash.[11] The shelving arrangement categorized books by publisher, rather than by topic or author.[2] A quote of this period is "Imagine Kafka had gone into the book trade"The 3 part queue was the best. I was furious when they moved to a choose book, pay for book, leave shop with book system, like other booksellers operate. Also the building had obviously been divided into more than one premises. There were odd doorways and places where you had to go back through 3 or 4 rooms to get to the room next to the one you were in. i think at one time there were two completely separate upstairs parts though I might have missed the connecting passage. The only other shop like it was Hudsons in Brmingham that was a concoction of two shop fronts five basements and a middle section that couldn't be accessed except via the basements built around the Burlington arcade. It was not unusual for people to ask other customers how to find the exit. Hudsons did let you actually buy books properly though if you could find the till. I used to pass it every day as I changed busses in the city centre to get to school.

I went into Foyle's a few times in the 90s but was put off by the chaos. There were a lot of other good book shops in the area at that time before the internet ruined everything (no idea if they are still there).

There should be some resemblance to reality: 'More or less well behaved if allowed a PC with NP and Diplomacy loaded. May try to talk you to death about them though. Occasional leaks'

Some quality co-commentating on the Ecuador match. Whoever it is has been explaining at length that the reason for the upsets at this World Cup is that the small countries have only just learned tactics from the big countries, and thus finally realised that you can't just attack all the time.

The old Foyles was exactly like that, you couldn't inquire about a book unless you knew the publisher, not the the title or the author, the publisher. It was a shit book shop, which made you get a "chit" to take to the till, which they then graciously sold the book to you. It was a snobby and elitist but fun to walk around. Surprised that they were surprised when Waterstone's opened a shop which encouraged people to buy books.

Until the big Waterstones in Birmingham opened I think Foyles was the biggest bookshop in the UK. Obviously it was completely crazy the way it was run. It took 10 minutes, not one minute to buy a book It probably had your book in stock, but there was no way of knowing. What's bizarre is that it didn't apparently start off like that. It was only when Christina Foyle got control that it became so bad.
When I moved to London in the late 1990s I mostly got books at the nearby Waterstones or Dillons over the road (or Sportspages). There was something magnificently crazy about Foyles back then, but the craziness was the main thing. It's a bit of a shame that it's now owned by Waterstones. I'd prefer a few shops, not just one.
