I can see why the US are outraged by thr assault on the sovereignty of their airspace. It's just so threatening and fucking provocative of the Chinese government, and on radar the balloon wasn't identifiable; it could have been any sort of threat to US citizens and soil -- imagine if the US hadn't been able to send up one of their fleet of high altitude U2 spy planes to check out what it . . . wait . . . hmm, never mind, whatevs. They may not have U2 available, either due to maintenance or being on-theatre In addition, they’re very specialises aircraft, and definitely not designed or used for visual interception of unidentified aerial objects.

A second UFO has been shot down, this time over Canada. Get the Vaseline ready! Gibbs: "Easy Probie, we'll get 'em when they land"!

The point, I presume, is the USA have had spy planes and systematically violated other countries' borders for 60 plus years. It's a bit rich to get pissy when someone does the same back to you. The same as if you do stuff like stuxnet you effectively tell everyone else weaponising the internet is ok.

Lewes has a house that was on Grand Designs. Down by the river, difficult to build as it needed pylons to stop it disappearing into the river. Looks like an ugly rusting garden shed.

And also because they apparently used a U2 to inspect the first balloon; presumably the altitude and airspeed indicated the choice of plane. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/feb/10/alaska-us-military-unidentified-object-white-house

The Water Tower, Coleshill, just by the A355 at the top of Gore Hill, was a money sink conversion. The 'revolutionary new concept' (top soil over polystyrene root = brilliant insulation) also meant a ton of condensation and remedial work. For 15 years I passed "the folly" frequently, as The Red Lion in Coleshill was my favourite pub...

There is a shop in Lewes called ‘Percy’s Fishing Tackle’. You can buy a hunting crossbow and a pen-knife the size of a machete. There are also a few artisanal bakeries and nice pubs.
I would definitely consider getting a boat and occasionally stopping in Lewes. When the south coast floods and the fuel runs out.
