hi
On the way to work.
Did I mention the leak we had in our flat?
I might have mentioned it, occasionally.
Well the flat was originally owned by Westminster Council. They still own the freehold. I think … the concrete inside the utility space where the leak occurs is made of aerated concrete. I mean almost certainly. Could it be the infamous reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete? I don’t know. The building was built in the 1970s so it’s possible. Hmmm.
This concrete thing is going to balloon well beyond schools surely.

I walked under a section of one of the other buildings on the estate today today. There’s a path under an elevated section of the building. A sort of arch, in principle, but not in practice. The path is outdoors but cuts through a building, meaning it temporarily has a ceiling made of concrete. This is the area where the crackheads used to assemble.
Anyway I passed under this section today and put my hand up to feel the concrete. It felt a bit porous ….
It could have just been rustic.

How many Tory donating builders are going to get huge fucking contracts to fix this school stuff? I fear the opposite, crappy cheap builders, low cost barely legal material and lots of corners cut.

Morning all. Day two in the office. I did not sleep well at home - went to bed later than I should have, and was then unable to get to sleep. The heat… the knowledge that I had to get up early… urgh. lazybonesThe office is packed. Well, busier than usual anyway. Bumped into the security guard earlier, on his way to the car park holding a printed sheet of paper which bore the legend “CAR PARK FULL”. That was at 8:50. I don’t like the sound of that. It implies parking pressures, and we’re not even at capacity with the building. And so soon we may move back to car sharing. DOUBLE URGH.

Building contractors. A man wants a house built and he knows the average cost is around £100k so he gets three quotes, the first says £150k the second says £130k the third quote says £115k the man rejects the first one straight away because of the extortionate price, he spends a moment assessing before rejecting the second one on account of the current market, then accepts the third one after some further research because that's the best deal he will get even though it's over priced. Even though the first two are not the contract holders they can still sub contract to the third one, and of course the build will go over budget due to supply costs, so ultimately the build will cost £135k. This routine increases the purchase price of the final build which increases the market which increases the build/manufacture costs of other future properties. All three companies are in a win win with the lowest possible grade of building products increasing profit margins for them and increasing cost for the consumer. Monopolisation equals profit and it's been that way for the best part of 50 years.

I don’t know if this concrete thing can be put wholly on the Torys.
Do you build your house with Yorkies? Or do you build your house with Aeros? Or your school, university or office building. I guess it’s just a tangle of responsibilities. What I don’t get, though, is why building surveyors hadn’t picked this up?
You buy a flat and get a surveyor to make sure it’s ok. Shouldn’t they have been saying ‘These walls are made from aerated concrete. Don’t buy’. Or words to that effect …
