A dusting of snow and very cold. Openreach were here at 8am to put a cable and box in for the new fast internet, but we needed scaffolding put up for the street line to join the house. The guy moaned about that as he only gets half pay.
Still on slow internet for a few more days then.

To be fair there is an extension popping out underneath where it needs to go, and the driveway in front slopes down. A ladder won't do the job unfortunately, neither will a < checks notes> swan neck as the cable would run too low.

Cold out. Trying to snow on the south coast, starting a little bit of house clearing for in laws. This will be a long job, guess that's any days off for the next year gone mostly.
Read the ancillary and Hyperion, can't remember the fall if I read it. Got all the Witcher books when they were a pound, maybe the gastronomique from kindle next?

Watching all the Harry Potter films but Fantastic Beasts have no subtitles. Now discovered how to add subtitles viewing with VLC media player. And it only takes a couple of clicks.

Still -1 outside.
A little bit of TD2 last night. Clearing control points.
Not the same without ps+ as you can't jump in and help folk. There's a free to play BR Division coming out that I really hope doesn't require ps+.
Watched the first two episodes of the new Show Horses then another YouTube black hole.

Opensubtitles is your friend if you're borrowing the movies. If it is a film in English try turning the sound on your hearing aid and/or TV up.

-1/-2 is not that cold. I spent two hours standing outside last night. I was wrapped up well and it was not that unpleasant. Apart from the result obviously.
It's not even the coldest night i have stood outside for hours this year.

Morning all!
Big Bank call this morning, a listen-in with important business lead. A loooot of waffle. Talk of teams moving offices, jobs being shuffled, roles disappearing, selection processes. Good times.
All of this has happened before, all of this will happen againβ¦

I thought football was all seated these days at the level you watch? No. And Yes. and No. There are now safe standing areas at many grounds, including Birmingham. These are for both home and away fans. At home game I have a seat and I actually sit in it. I am not in the standing area because I have had the same seat since August 2001. I know the people around us and I like the view. To stand would mean moving to a worse view. I went to Blackburn last night. There is no safe standing area there. I stood up throughout the game, regardless. I was also in the wrong seat. The rules do not apply to me. I did sit down a couple of times during stoppages. Or more to the point I had to stand to see the game as everyone else was standing. This is pretty much standard for away games. It's about 20 years since stewards last tried to enforce sitting at any game I have been at. Occasionally if there aren't many there or we are particularly bad you can sit. There were about 1,400 away fans last night which is a lot for a Wednesday in Blackburn. We had 2/3 of the bottom tier which means about 4,000 seats. There was room to sit and see the game if you wanted, but the bulk of the fans stood throughout the game. I moved seats to get a better view. No one ever asks for their seat in particular at away games. If you want the seat on your ticket just turn up more than 20 minutes before kick off. I turned up just before kick off and took an unused seat. It's a good system. Though I would issue unreserved seats to away fans. Luton do this. It stops and quarrels over seats. If you ever see away fans on TV it will be clear that they are standing, not sitting. This particularly applies to Rangers and Celtic fans in Scotland, but it is very general. Unless you have a small away contingent in a big ground when some will sit. Also the rail seats for standing are just ordinary seats with a bar attached to them so you can lean on it if you want. There isn't a significant change from ordinary seating. It just means that the rules now sometimes agree with what fans do.

A third, larger, Greggs has opened, exciting times in Kent.
Also Sainsbury's has turned into a high security shop, barriers and guards all over the place.
