Iirc it was Andy Murray in a joint press conference with Henman, and he was responding in like manner to a joke from Henman about Scotland. It was pretty clearly a joke between two friends, but it got blown up in a mischievous way by the press - I guess it's a powerful narrative. In real life I don't know anyone who 'hates' England beyond the usual parameters of football rivalry, and not many who care even that much... On the other hand, I am still pretty angry about some of the McCoist misses in that Switzerland game.
