Dear Blog Hive Mind,
An IRL friend (of the mammal who tolerates me, obviously, not my actual IRL friend) asked me about whether to get a PS4 or a YewtreeBox. I said PS4, obvs.
He liked the sound of PS+ and was happy with the idea of getting non-premium games each month and the annual cost for online play. He was less impressed when I said that there were very few split-screen games available nowadays, as I think he quite liked the idea of playing games with his son (about 9-ish, I think).
I've asked before about PS4 split screen games, and there aren't many. Are there more X-Box split-screeners? Or even Nintendo ones? He said he wasn't interested in a Nintendo Wii3 (or whatever it's called) as I think he wants his son to grow up to be a proper gamer like me. Is split screen and playing in the same room on the same TV as your opponent / comrade now basically dead?

Sports games are the best bet.
Pes or Fxfx have local 2 player. I think Gran Turismo sport might do local two player. There are some local co-op games, but not many.

He liked the sound of PS+ and was happy with the idea of getting non-premium games each month and the annual cost for online play. Not to sound like a Microsoft salesman but Xbox offers the exact same and, for a little extra, access to many, many games with game pass. The main selling point for a PS4, for me, is the exclusives. I bought mine originally just for Horizon. I was not disappointed. Anyway, morning! Last block until my 12 off. Can't. Fucking. Wait. Now at 369/400 caught. Got lucky doing a lot of surprise trades yesterday and ended up with the other two starters I was missing. The pokedex has also stopped suggesting things for me to catch, meaning I only have evolving or trading to go to fill it up. Also discovered that I can go defend my title against new challengers any time I want, just a shame they're all hideously under leveled.

I've got one for the collective. My kid is getting into horror films. She is only 13 but I am a terrible parent so I am letting her watch some with me. It's off the back of Stranger Things, so we watched It the other day. What are some other horror-y films we could watch that are scary without being mega violent or disturbing? I was thinking Scream might be OK, and maybe the Babadook.
I'm positive I will get some helpful suggestions.

Another plus with Xbox, the games with gold thing they do/did, let’s you keep the games if you don’t carry on with gold. PS you have to stay a member to keep the games.

You technically keep the titles, but can only play them if you re-sub. Unless you leave your Xbox offline from just before your sub runs out.

That’s changed then, I’ve played gold games without a sub before.

Comedy/horror might be a bit more kid friendly. Also the Haunting of Hill House on Netflix was decent.

Morning, Didn't get home till half eight last night. Partly due to two arsehole bus drivers. Anyway. Games. No. TV. Jack Ryan on the commute. Got the latest Mr Robot for today. Lots of pondering laptops and black Friday till the wee hrs. Yes Forgot my coffee cup so I'll need to fuck the planet this morning. I'll be getting pumped against a wall like Shenguin if I'm not careful. RollingEscargotI know what you did last summer? That's a suggestion. I'm not stalking you. Yet. What's the one where they know how they die and try to avoid it? If it's called premonition or something I'll slap myself. {Edit} Final destination

That’s changed then, I’ve played gold games without a sub before. I googled when you posted as I thought it was the same as the PS+ terms. Not sure if/ when they changed it. crankcaller , I think you're thinking of the Final Destination films. Where they avoid an accident only for Death to hunt them down and kill them in increasingly amusing ways? Edit: Posted before seeing Cranks edit. How embarrassing etc. etc.

Can anyone remember the name of that one where they almost die in a plane crash then get bumped off by faulty toasters and the like?

One all Scottish teenagers should see is Nightmare on Elm Street 2. If only for the line "There's a Jessie on the phone..."
Though that word is probably dying out. Indyref2 now!

I am violently hungover. BDM got out of hand.
I was out watching the footy last night. Villa looked pretty good, Newcastle were dreadful.

Morning all.
I am sub-par today. My partner cooked a quite delicious roasted veg/bean/chorizo dinner last night, but it has since been wreaking havoc upon my system. A terrible night's sleep. And toot-central. Luckily for my colleagues, I'm working from home today.
Gamesblog - Amiga! Played Gods (Bitmap Brothers), Gunship 2000 (Microprose), and Alien Fish Finger (David Cruickshank). All good, particularly the last one, which has the loudest explosion sample known to man.
TVblog - the first episode of the new series of Final Space. Didn't quite grab me as well as the first series, and I can't put my finger on the why of it.
OTTM - spoke to my brother on the telephone for the first time in weeks. Good To catch up.
