OK, bear with me as I am fucking useless at tech stuff, even consumer electronics. So, Sheggers, you are saying you get this this Onkyo thing; rip your CDs as FLACS onto an external HDD (for the sake of argument, let's say something like the canary yellow 1TB Western Digital HDD); connect it to the Onkyo with 3 miles of plantinum fibre cables; connect your speakers to the Onkyo; and it'll read your FLACS and play them in the form of audio music? Presumably with some sort of app or web interface so you can choose what you are playing? Is that the general idea? That is the idea. The Onkyo player should have a display so you can select what you play using a remote control or an app. It is like a local version of Spotify where what you get is a selection of your terrible music choices.

I wish I was still drunk.
Games: Mario Odyssey. It's ok. Don't really see what all the fuss is about though tbh.
Tv: HDM. I think I'm still a couple of episodes behind. It's ok. Don't really see what all the fuss is about though tbh.

I've gone deep on the audiophile forums this mornings and am now even more confused. Those guys are hardcore - almost as bad as the coffee machine wankers.

RollingEscargotI don't have one. My chum does. He loves it. Easy to use, easy to backup, good sound. The other option as mentioned is a Nas and a media streamer. The Synology ones are meant to be decent. Avoid the wd home ones like the plague.

Hello all.
I have a simply coil of speaker wire that I bought from Maplins (remember them). A couple of feet of that from my Denon mini hifi to the TDL speakers, and all sounds fine to me.
Gamesblog - I gave the old Amiga version of Rogue Trooper a try. It is... antiquated.
TVblog - I got the All4 app working on my PS4. So watched the first episode of series four of Rick & Morty.

amipal there, boasting about how he plays all his music through decrepit Amigas. I assume, I didn't actually read his post.

I did not like and subscribe for more.

Hello. Arrived at work to be told by big boss to go to another site. Major IT issues at the weekend.
Is there fuck. Major plamf issues more like. I swear the mfd they couldn't print to wasn't switched on. I would bet my left bollock on it.
Waste of a morning. Aaaaaghhhhhhhhhh.

The Synology NAS is very good. It was not cheap though.
I have not had problems with Seagate or WD hard drives. I did/do use Twonky server (£20) though. The inbuilt software is rubbish. It got worse as well. At some point WD dropped the option to play tracks in number order using the file structure.
The biggest plus is virually immediate access to any track. It means that once you have recorded them you can play old CD singles without it being a pain.
Also I have quite a few old vinyl records. I recorded all of them. I can now listen to 80's/90's B-sides any time I want without a faff. Which is not that often. But more often than you would think.

Morning jabronies, My Switch arrived ahead of schedule on Saturday, just before I went to the Christmas market in Edinburgh. So, much of my afternoon was spent looking at £5 bananas and other overpriced tat while itching to get back to play Pokemon and Mario Kart. I decided to play Pokemon in basic Japanese. I'm nowhere near the level required to comprehend what's going on but, if the ghost of bloggie past is to be believed, this will only enhance the experience. The second Switch, which I ordered without the £50 code I intended to use and so promptly cancelled, also arrived. Fortunately, my housemate came in on Monday complaining about not being able to find a decent Switch deal and a deal was struck, saving me a trip to the post office.

So, it could be all I need is one of these NAS things, and could then stream from that through my Roberts 93i radio, which has a good speaker. Alternatively, a basic HDD and spend the money at the other end, on something like the onkyo, hooked up to my proper speakers. Sheep2 does the synology have an app for selecting tracks etc through your phone? Can you create playlists / shuffle all, or can you only select a folder to play?

Afternoon 'box. Looks like the dog is not long for this world. Up every two hours last night, in pain, can barely walk / get up, not eating. If he does it again tonight we're off to the vets to discuss the options. Am going to miss the bugger if we have to have him put down Games: None, unless drinking all the beers and eating all the foods is a game. OTTM: Watched the first hour of The Irishman, but had drank too many beers by then and was falling asleep so need to go back to it this weekend. Missed HDM will catch up tonight.

mlu035rsc Poor doggy. I want to say I hope he pulls through, but not at the price of being in pain and having no quality of life. Such a tough call. Listen to the vet.
