Don't use the toaster.
Hello. I'm off to have a fight with the post office. I have ID and I have a photo of the wee card they put through your door, I have txt's & emails from them. They have my new laptop. If I go home first to get the card I'll not want to go back out.

I remember doing the same when we got a smart meter many years ago.
It didn't last long. The cat smashed it around in an effort to hide the costs of her heated cat bed. Soon it was quite dead. But I no longer needed it because by then I knew the power consumption of every appliance. My brain had become the smart meter.

In other news, my Amazon order of Kraken Spiced Rum was finally delivered. (Thanks to USA Tiffany).
As a 65 yr old man I was obviously required to show photo ID in order to take delivery. It took 5 minutes for the driver to record my date of birth from my passport onto his device. before handing over the liquor.
Presumably he had to painstakingly scroll back through the years to reach mine.

Your kettle’s only 13p an hour? That’s pretty cheap.
I have no idea if you are folically challenged or not, but I would not advise looking at your smart meter when hair dryers or straighteners are in use.

I have a fine head of hair thank you, but have no use for hair dryers, straighteners, curlers or other devices.
However we still have one daughter living at home who no doubt avails herself of such paraphernalia (at our expense, natch)

Your kettle’s only 13p an hour? That’s pretty cheap. i don't think it was a fair test. There was very little water in it and I only switched it on for a few seconds. I will conduct a more thorough test at breakfast tomorrow (along with the toaster) and report back.

A bit off topic, but I've been watching a few old Michael Parkinson interviews on the tube. Why is it that he always sounds like he's got a particularly difficult Yorkshire poo that just won't eject? Good luck Jumbulance, please note the fire escapes.

If you conducted interviews on the tube you'd probably sound that way too.

Whats the cost of opening and posting on the Chatterbox? (Financial, not moral). Hmm....tricky one. The baseline figure, TV, living room and hall light, router, laptop etc (exluding heating, cooker) is around 6p an hour. Reassuringly cheap.

I do not have a smart meter. I do have a spreadsheet of meter readings for gas and leccy, taken on or around the 14th of each month, since I moved here. The spreadsheets calculate the cost and usage in kWh, and produce a graph* of usage throughout the year.
OTTM: earlier I had a conversation wih an 11y-o, the conclusion of which was that we're taking a "holiday" from the PlayStation until about Christmas. Inevitably, there were tears, shouting and general unpleasantness -- precisely the behaviour the "holiday" is designed to discourage -- and his behaviour wasn't much fucking better.
*Actually three graphs.

Can't wait to switch on the tumble dryer, washing machine, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and microwave simultaneously... Really test the fuck out of the IHD * * In Home Display, not Ischemic Heart Disease

Our electricity and gas supplier is Tonik, since you ask. Birmingham-based green energy firm, with a particularly green mix of electricity sources (all solar or wind), and offset for the natural gas element of the gas (and 10% of gas from is biogas from waste). They also pay interest for credit in the account, so if a large credit balance build up, I'm actually happy with that. Would recommend.
You can see the origins of the electricity mix by checking the Fuel Mix report all suppliers have on their websites (some try to hide it). Some "green" suppliers are bastards. For example, Octopus give the impression of being all renewable, but in 17/18 6% of their electricity came from coal, against a national average of 9%.
