scubarSt Austell area, probably. Near a beach with a bit of luck. I'm ignoring those other guys - you, CornishMikey and the cast of Poldark are my go-to list. St Awful? Oh dear. Erm, Eden project is right by there, Padstow isn’t too far out of the way. Think Heligan and Trebah are near there as well. If you get a bit further south west, St Ives and St Michaels Mount are must sees. Fowey is nice too.

I'm just going to tell it straight, you should stay on the Lizard peninsula, not near St Austell. Near St Austell, the Eden project is definitely worth the entry cost, and the Heligan Gardens are good if you're into that sort of thing. St Michael's Mount is worth the drive from there, but probably busy, and nearby Porthleven is a lively village (relatively) with some good restaurants. Fowey is ok. If you happen to drive to the area, Land's End isn't worth a visit, but the Minack Theatre is great if there's something even half decent on. Lizard Point / Lizard Village is worth a long drive for Ann's Pasties (they're fucking delicious, even by the standard of delicious pasties) and Lizard Point is good for seals and birds. Polperro and round there is nice, and some decent walks, ditto Goran Haven. The Barbara Hepworth Museum in St Ives is small but very good, Tate St Ives is worth a visit if you're in St Ives already. There are some mines on the North Coast in the West, especially Levant Mine, that I really enjoyed visiting, but again they're a long way West of St Austell. There are a good few National Trust houses and gardens in Cornwall, most of them worth a visit. Rinsey Cove and Kynance Cove are both very pleasant in their own ways. I also like the walks around Helford and getting the ferry, though it is definitely an estuary not the sea. Don't bother making a special trip to Padstow to eat Rick Stein's over-priced chips. Or just ask a local which their favourite cove is, and spend time wherever they say. If you like a bit of walking, I recommend www.amazon.co.uk/Pathfinder-Cornwall-Guides-Sue-Viccars/dp/1854586815www.annspasties.co.uk/Best pasties ever. Vegetarian ones are great, and I'm told the meat ones are also very good. Just fucking delicious. There are several small Cornish breweries that make bottle conditioned ales easily available in local shops. Most of them are good, but on a couple of different occasions I have had cloudy and sour bottles of Chough Ale, and I would not recommend it.
