Hello. My work pc in the office is being replaced and I'm frantically copying stuff off it into my personal network drive that's tiny. Downloading onto the work laptop at home. Then deleting from network drive, rinse repeat. I can shove it all on a dvd here. Then copy it back once I'm back in. My Kingdom for a SharePoint server.

Tent Hen there, accidentally pressing Ctrl x instead of Ctrl c. Should just have Ctrl v'd it back, or even used Ctrl z to undo, which works in Chrome. Again, I should have been more specific. Ctrl z and Ctrl v only produced more underscores. Underscores everywhere. -_- |

I used to use microfishes all the time. It has been a while though.
Companies House used to supply search documents on mirofilm.
Also I read loads of old newspapers like that as research for my dissertation.
Do people still use them?

Yeah we've got local newspapers going back 150yrs and piles of other stuff. Mostly on reels not fiche. They're digital though. You look on a monitor and can copy to usb the images.

I just wrote a fairly long-ish post about this and that. Because I had posts like that irretrievably disappear once I clicked on the "Create Post" button, I selected the text and copied it, so that I could paste it back in case something went wrong. Instead of copying it, the action deleted everything and the only thing that gets pasted into the reply box is an underscore _. This already the second time* this has happened to me recently. Anyone else experienced this or are my posts cursed? [Edit: I bet it's my cursor. The name makes it so obvious.] I guess I need to start composing my posts in Word? *The first time was a post in response to scamander 's publisher question, but it sounds as if he's sorted that without my sage advice. Just saying that I'm not ignoring you**. Not always. **not you , I think what tenthen is saying is be very careful not to press the wrong button when you are copy/pasting stuff off the internet to put in your book. |

Well I had fun today, after a very late night/morning I turned on the monster and dawdled off to do something else (probably coffee related) and came back to find the PC had crashed.
I rebooted it and it crashed again, twice after that, the third time it rolled and went into safe mode (raid system) started up ok but a bit sluggish.
After a half an hour of this I thought I'd best run a cleanup as soon as I clicked on it it freaked out and went to a blue screen and said that some main component of the start up had malfunctioned and that I needed to talk to the manufacturer - who I think might have emigrated about 15 years ago.
The guy who built it for me sold up and went home to Ireland to be with his kids ( he wasn't well), so I killed it (switched it off and then on again) perfect, not a hint of an issue since.
3 hours of early morning entertainment all totally true.
