Heroin chat? Whose idea was this?
I've only ever known two people who got into heroin. Both of them died. From heroin

Switched on the PC to catch up; the cooling is brilliant. CPU rock steady at 45c. I'm not so cool, but it's only (hah!) 36c. Outside is 38c, but I just collected my Amazon package off of my rubbish bin and I felt as though someone had hit the front of my body with a super heated blanket.
The Nurses have taken up my offer to defer my treatment until Wednesday. Back end of the week is going to be tougher than usual, but I really feared for whoever was going to be stuck with treating me tomorrow. minimum 23c overnight and from past experience the inside temperature when they would have come would have been 34c...
Back to silent running... sleeping a lot.

Heroin chat? Whose idea was this? I've only ever known two people who got into heroin. Both of them died. From heroin Sorry. That was me. I'm just reading a book about the drugs trade in Liverpool. It begins with 'Fred the Rat' who uses his connections as a used car salesman to set up the biggest drugs cartel the UK has ever seen. I'm reading it in the voice of Danny Dyer. But there's a section that describes the start of the boom in the 1980s and how casually people were taking it. It's a bit like the depictions of Pripyat in that television drama about Chernobyl. Happy scenes, before the disaster hits.

I was offered some opium on holiday once. Glad I eschewed it. I'm no expert, but don't you smoke opium, not chew it?

I think you can eat it. Either that or Thomas De Quincy was a liar.
Eat, drink, smoke, snort, inject, put up bottom. I believe all the ways work. Some faster, some safer. Modern opioids often come in tablet form.
My mum had tramadol after her first knee replacement, but liquid morphine after the second.
Heroin, which is a brand owned by Bayer, was developed to he less addictive than Morphine.
If you have a clean supply it is supposed to he pretty safe. The big risks are where you get different purities and also relapsing users taking too much. Oh and needle sharing. If you share needles with junkies you'll pick up nasty infections.
If you have a stable life you can take heroin and remain stable. But almost no one with a stable life finds the idea of heroin attractive. If you are leading a chaotic lifestyle hard drugs might be attractive, but they won't help.

An old friend I visited last week is effectively on a diet of liquid morphine.
He is dying though, so I reckon he has a good excuse.

It's supposed to be the good stuff for controlling pain. At least he shouldn't be too uncomfortable.
The only people I have known on opiates were either recovering from operations or SERIOUSLY ill.
My condolences to your friend.

in other news the gas fitters have left. We have gas, elctricity and cold running water.
No hot water or central heating, but can't say I'm missing them at the moment.

An old friend I visited last week is effectively on a diet of liquid morphine. He is dying though, so I reckon he has a good excuse. I have liquid morphine- Oramorph - on a daily basis in variable quantities, but never more than 30ml. Past that increases your risk of addiction. Over that is pointless as very quickly your body becomes habituated to it. It has no euphoria attendant on its use. It just takes the edge off the pain. After treatment - for the next day or two I switch down to 20ml. That is largely because usage gives you a continual constipation, and reduction helps with this... They also prescribed the maximum Tramadol from when I got out of hospital as well and I didn't realize that it was opium based until I read the leaflet with a magnifying glass. It had zero painkilling effect and the combo gave me massive constipation. 36c in here - switching down.

Off to Ramsgate tomorrow for a short break*, which will probably consist of sitting on a train for most of the day.
Once we get there the highlight will obviously be a visit to "The Largest** 'Spoons in the Universe".
*Booked well before the current heat difficulties. **Unless there's being some parallel evolution somewhere else where they're build an even bigger one.

Seen a rhino with a hard on. link? It was a school trip in the late '80s, The schoolgirls took great pleasure in repeatedly asking one of the male teachers what it was, "What's that Sir?".
It was massive.

Getting on a train during a heatwave, though? Not cool, Felice, not cool.

Luckily, the amount of heroin I use is harmless, I inject about once a month on a purely recreational basis.
