I was going to go with "That's why he kept it in the garage", but I wasn't certain the joke hadn't already been made with more delicate finesse.

My Grandad (on mums side) was in the RAF and fell out with my Dad when he bought a Nissan Bluebird, circa mid/late 80s. Wouldn't speak to him anymore. It mysteriously* went into a ditch at the top of Snake Pass when Dad was driving it and got written off. No injuries thankfully. Never a bad word about the Germans though from Grandad, the daft old racist.
*I think it was snowing

I should have gone with "That's why he kept it in the ditch at Snake Pass".

I'm quite happy to blunder in with a crass joke at the best of times*.
*A rare home win for Birmingham today. It is the best of times.

As was my very old uncle. My Aunt wouldn't buy Japanese if she could avoid it. Easier in the 60s/70s

Unless that was a "joke" as well.

Yes, I'm quite happy with delicate as a modifier of finesse. In a different context, a different nuance might be lent by a different modifier: confident, graceful, sly, understated, sweary, et fuckin cetera.

I’ve never been to a balti house.
Tandoori restaurants are where the magic happens.
A lot of the Wu Tang drama tonight. I like it.

Suede were good, 50/50 early/new stuff, a much better ratio would have been 90/10.

It's those bastards with Japanese & German cars that really piss me off. Wankers. My great uncle was in a Japanese POW camp. Consequently my dad refused to have a Japanese car in the house. Same here. My mum's brother was in a Japanese war camp. She wouldn't get in my car for a long while and was very off with me when I bought it. She still hates all things Japanese.

All your relatives were so mainstream with their racist discrimination. My grandad was slightly more niche, and apparently came back from the war with a hatred of Italians

Until a couple of months ago I used to eat my main meal at 7pm. So I'd have breakfast and then feeling hungry in the afternoon snack on things. At 7pm I'd eat my main meal come what may although I might not really have been hungry after snacking. I now have no breakfast as I eat my main meal at twelve mid-day. Not hungry in the afternoon so don't snack. Then have a home made bread roll with some sort of filling around 6pm. I'm now wearing trousers that I'd put to one side for the charity shop as they now fit me again. Have lost half a stone in a couple of months by changing my eating times.

All your relatives were so mainstream with their racist discrimination. My grandad was slightly more niche, and apparently came back from the war with a hatred of Italians I can understand this. Ive watched Norwegian, Danish, French series on BBC 4 without any problems. The Italian detective series I struggle with as I've found I have a great dislike of listening to the Italian language being spoken. It really grates for some reason. Possibly it's loud and fast and lots of arm waving. Good job I'm not Italian I guess as I'd have to be a deaf mute.

All your relatives were so mainstream with their racist discrimination. My grandad was slightly more niche, and apparently came back from the war with a hatred of Italians My father came back with a profound hatred of arabs*; the cause was "Their obdurate, bloody minded idleness". Mind you he hated SArfers with a passion. *He ran a Scammell workshop from 1944-1947 and said that if you didn't constantly supervise them, they would hide, leaning on a broom. "Just cleaning up effendi". Dad would be left under an engine which needed someone to steady it... 4 tons precariously swaying above him.
