My younger daughter has tested positive for the Covid. She thought she had a cold. EDIT: All four of us were here for New Year's Day dinner. My elder daughter (who spent last night with her) has tested negative. Mrs D and I will take a test tomorrow. Good luck Desters, old chap. I hope your girls get through it OK. I took a lateral Flow Test this morning as I have cold-like symptoms. It was negative.

After today there's only two more full days of quarantine left. Which, coincidentally, will be the date Germany is going to take the UK off the list of "virus variant areas" which means that arrivals will no longer have to quarantine for 14 days like I did because meanwhile Omicron is all over Germany anyway and for once it's not our fault. So predictably this was all completely pointless. I'm not complaining, though. I got a free PCR test and a great excuse for not taking out the rubbish out of it and it could always be worse. Imagine arriving in Germany from the UK tomorrow and having to quarantine for 2 weeks in the knowledge that the next day it will be regarded as unnecessary.
What irks me in all of this is that (according to my brother) it was the local governments that pushed for putting those restrictions on people travelling from the UK in place while at the same time they were still allowing super spreader events to go ahead. Locally there have been six Christmas parties with altogether well over a thousand attendees that are now known to be the source of large numbers of Covid infections (they are still trying to find everyone that attended). They were subject to the "2G" rule, i.e. you didn't even have to wear a mask and only bring proof of vaccination or recovery. At least in one instance the owner of a club is now claiming that a few people gained entrance by showing fake vaccination documents. But sure, it's me who's a danger to public health.
I have meanwhile completely lost track of time and needed to remind myself more than once that it's Sunday.
Or is it?
