No-one planning to ... make merry in a fool's hat? Before beating on their neighbours' door, with a bowl of wassail punch?

Cold outside. Like the hoary breath of an ice-daemon, again.

The problem with Keir Starmer is that he doesn't have kind eyes. He has tiny surprised eyes. Like a surprised butcher.Also known as Mr. Tiddles after 'a night out'

I am definitely looking forward to 12th night, as it means I can get this goddam tree out of my living room and once more have my phone charger plugged in near the shabby IKEA chair where I spend most of my life slumped. Also, it symbolises the beginning proper of the annual season of hope: the January transfer window.

Also, it symbolises the beginning proper of the annual season of crushed hope: the January transfer window. So far we have lost four players (Sanderson, Sarkic, Chong & McGree and gained only a spotty yout from Man Utd (Mengi). Apparently Shrewsbury are returning Cosgrove to us on the grounds he is no good. The only real sign of hope is that Peterborough, Barnsley & Derby are all 8 points+ behind us. This is frankly implausible given how awful we are, but appears to correct according to the tables.

Happy BD silcox, I aim for neither caring the most or least.
First frost of the year here, doesn't seem like winter much recently.

Periodically contemplating the 2 million Birmingham City apparently paid for Cosgrove is the only thing that has given me good cheer over the last few months.

I don't think it was £2m. I believe it was £500k down, plus up to £1.5m in add ons depending on appearances and goals and possibly our success*. I do not think there will be any add ons triggered. Unless there was a bonus based onus staying up.
He is one of the most disappointing players I have seen. And I saw Greg Stewart.
* Ha! fools.

Who knows - it will have been spun differently by each party, though tbh even 500k looks like good business in retrospect (for the sheep shaggers). It was mystifying when he was banging them in, as he looked crap even then. He just had an unrepeatable one-off 10 month purple patch.

My boyhood hero (still is) died on this day. A tremendous man; never did a ship's name more reflect the character of its captain. I recommend you get hold of South with Endurance - Shackleton's Antarctic Expedition 1914-1917 - the Photographs of Frank Hurley. linkI read Hurley's book when my father trusted me to handle it at the age of 12; I voted for him as the greatest Briton and would do so now. "Scott for scientific method, Amundsen for speed and efficiency but when disaster strikes and all hope is gone, get down on your knees and pray for Shackleton"

Francis Drake has to be Greatest Briton on account of his magic drum.
Does Shackleton's drum beat in times of national need?
I think not.
