I want fries with that. Is Shenguin back in work yet? I'm still in bed. Oops. I was meant to be in work before 8am, but I guess I missed that.

hi
Iβm in Birmingham. At my dadβs house.
I woke up at 4 oβ clock, which was ok in itself, but I began to hear a buzzing by the window. Soon enough a wasp burst through the curtains and menaced me where I lay in bed. I got it to leave β¦
Thatβs the story.
There was a waspsβ nest above the room, about a year ago. I used to worry it would fall through the ceiling, resulting in β¦ death, for myself, and chaos for the house. Maybe it is back.

Morning
After yesterday's vegetable intake, I too have a hankering for MEAT this morning, bacon, sausage, anything. Alas, we have none (that isn't frozen). Maybe I'll walk to the co-op.
OTTM, very warm but drizzle here, like being in the Tropics.

Actually, that's not true. I've now got one of those electric bat things, I frazzle them.

Bees and wasps I find respond to vocal persuasion. Kindly leave by the door or window works better than get out you little fucker. Flies on the other hand are a whole different kettle of fish.

I hate wasps so much it's almost pathological. When I was a nipper and my family and Dad's friends family were on a camping holiday we played a game of French cricket. I'd just been given a pair of baggy jeans (you'll grow into them, son) and was sent into the deep. In order to see better I stood on a mound. You can probably guess it was a wasp's nest, and the little fuckers came boiling up out of the nest all over me and up my jeans. Consequently, even after my father had picked me up and got the nasty little reptiles off me whilst running out of range to a pond, he couldn't kill the ones inside the jeans until he'd removed them. I was stung over 50 times and the pain for a 4' 5" 7y old was awful. They even considered taking me to hospital, but my father had been a King's Scout besides having learned to deal with all kinds of injuries in WWII*. So, the stings got removed with tweezers, and the venom neutralized with diluted vinegar (as I recall). Ever since then I cannot suffer one to live. *in the Western desert - where the nearest Doctor might be over a 100 miles away and he and his drilling team were pretty much isolated. They were drilling for water on the edge and in the Qattara Depression. It's odd to see this resurface in Ass Creed, especially as so much pumping has been done that the ground water often is salt drawn in from the Med and Red Sea.

Pretty sure it's a cheap chipboard side table with a dark veneer. Would look smarter without the random broken bit of plastic from a child's toy on it.

whatalark knows the score. Wasps respond well to vocal persuasion. If you ask them to leave they often will. With this wasp I went and found an empty toilet roll cylinder and pushed some toilet paper in at the top to block it. Then I placed the cylinder over the wasp and pushed another folded piece of paper between the cylinder and the wall. Then I let the wasp out the window.

We visited Wakehurst Place yesterday. Itβs a combined Kew/National Trust place, and contains the Millennium Seed Bank.
The gardens are nice to walk around, but it was delving into the woods which was particularly enjoyable.
The highlight of the excursion was discovering the Jubilee Wildflower Meadow. My partner and my son had walked on ahead, and I stumbled upon it alone - and was instantly transported to the most serene and natural place imaginable.
The sound of bees buzzing and crickets chirping, birds calling, and the wind blowing through the wildflowers. Pure bliss, a calming balm for the mind.
